Dagan Karp is a Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College (HMC), affiliated with the Department of Mathematics. His research spans two primary areas: algebraic geometry, focusing on moduli theory, enumerative geometry, toric/tropical geometry, and Gromov-Witten theory; and mathematics education, emphasizing critical pedagogy, rehumanization, and anti-oppressive frameworks in post-secondary education.
He has held administrative roles including Associate Dean for Diversity at HMC and chaired the Diversity Committee at the Park City Mathematics Institute. Karp actively promotes equity in mathematics through leadership roles, including co-founding the AMS eMentoring Network, serving on SACNAS’s National Math Task Force, and advising SLMath’s Broadening Participation Committee.
His work integrates disciplinary scholarship with systemic efforts to diversify STEM, blending theoretical mathematics with pedagogical innovation rooted in social justice principles.
