Michael Nagenborg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Twente, affiliated with the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS). He holds a doctoral degree in philosophy from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, with a thesis focused on Privacy and ICT.
- Co-leader of the NWO-funded BRIdging Data in the Built Environment (BRIDE) project (2018–2022)
- Board member of the Philosophy of the City Research Group
- Advisor to European projects: its4land (2016–2020), NordSTEVA, and Institut fuer Digitale Ethik
- Member of the Ethics Committee of the ITC faculty at the University of Twente
His research centers on the intersection of technology, ethics, and urban environments, particularly addressing data-driven technologies and their societal implications. He has contributed to COST actions like Living in Surveillance Societies (LiSS) and CyberParks, and previously served on the board of the International Society for Ethics and Information Technologies (2014–2016). His work integrates philosophy of technology with practical ethical frameworks for urban innovation and security.
