Michael Mullins is an Adjunct Professor at Cumberland University, teaching Criminal Justice and Homeland Security within the Millard & JJ Oakley School of Humanities, Education and the Arts. He is a 27-year veteran of the Mt. Juliet Police Department, serving as Chief and overseeing operational divisions including Patrol, Investigations, and Special Operations. Chief Mullins holds degrees from Volunteer State Community College (A.S.), Bethel University (B.S.), Cumberland University (M.S.P.), and the University of Virginia (M.S.).
His professional certifications include training in de-escalation tactics, field training, and less-lethal munitions. He graduated from prestigious law enforcement academies such as the FBI National Academy and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director’s Academy. Mullins is active in professional organizations including the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
His career spans investigative roles, patrol, and leadership in Special Response Teams. Beyond academia, he emphasizes community-focused policing and officer development. He has been married for 25 years and has one daughter, with two rescue dogs.
