Dr. Michael Mossman is an Associate Dean (Indigenous Strategy and Services) and Lecturer at the University of Sydney's School of Architecture, Design and Planning. He specializes in Indigenous architectural strategies, decolonization, urban planning, and cultural heritage preservation. His research bridges Indigenous knowledge systems with contemporary urban design practices.
His work includes the 'Indigenising the Built Environment in Australia' grant (2023), exploring reconciliation through architectural design. Notable collaborations include the Winanga-Li Aboriginal Child and Family Centre project, showcased at the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale. In 2025, he co-curated the Australia Pavilion at the Venice Biennale with Elle Davidson, focusing on sensory design and Indigenous learning.
Recent publications address political urbanism and decolonial approaches to architecture, emphasizing risk, civic disruption, and spatial justice. He actively engages with communities and institutions to integrate Indigenous perspectives into urban development.
