Michael Moore has been an instructor of tuba at Emory University for 33 years, where he previously directed the Emory Brass Ensemble for 15 years and currently conducts the Atlanta Symphony Community Brass Ensemble. As the principal tubist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 1968 (joining at age 18), he maintains affiliations with Georgia and Kennesaw State Universities. His professional leadership includes roles as treasurer of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM), treasurer of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Player's Association (ASOPA), and executive board member of the Atlanta Federation of Musicians.
Research interests center on brass performance techniques, ensemble direction, and musical composition. Performance highlights include concertos with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and collaborations with the Chicago Symphony.
Awards include induction into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 2015.
Educational background includes a bachelor's degree in music literature with a minor in composition from Georgia State University, studying under renowned tubists including Arnold Jacobs and Ed Kleinhammer.
