Michael McMahon is an Associate Professor at McGill University's Schulich School of Music, specializing in Music Performance. He holds academic affiliations with the Department of Music Performance and is actively involved in vocal coaching, collaborative piano, and opera. His career spans performances across Canada, Europe, and the USA, collaborating with renowned artists and organizations like L'Opéra de Montréal and the Banff Centre for the Arts.
He studied at McGill University with Charles Reiner, followed by advanced training in Vienna and Salzburg under esteemed mentors such as Erik Werba and Jörg Demus. His expertise includes vocal interpretation, diction for singers, and opera repertoire coaching. McMahon’s recordings, released on labels like Marquis and CBC Records, have garnered critical acclaim and Juno nominations.
As a faculty member, he teaches Song Interpretation, diction, and vocal repertoire. He has led master classes nationally and adjudicated competitions, mentoring many opera singers now active globally.
