John Mac Master is an Associate Professor (Voice) at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University. He holds a B.A. in Theology from Concordia University and an L.Mus. from McGill. His expertise spans opera, vocal performance, and choral music, with a global career spanning major opera houses and symphony orchestras.

Research interests focus on dramatic vocal repertoire, choral music, and interdisciplinary teaching methods. His performances include iconic roles like Cavaradossi (Tosca), Otello, and Tristan, alongside collaborations with conductors such as Sir Colin Davis and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Active in both opera and concert stages, he has recorded works with the London Symphony Orchestra and Polish Radio Orchestra.
Teaching emphasizes sharing his extensive performance experience with students. Previously taught at Western University (London, ON) and now leads vocal studies at McGill. Engaged with Montreal’s cultural institutions, including L’Orchestre Métropolitain and L’Opéra de Montréal.
