Michael McCreery is an Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He serves as the director of the Interaction & Media Sciences Lab, focusing on applying human-computer interaction principles to develop video game-based stealth assessments, particularly in aggression studies. His research spans behavioral sciences, technology-based learning, and psychoeducational interventions. McCreery holds a Ph.D. in Learning & Technology from UNLV, an M.S. in Educational Policy from Portland State University, and a B.S. in Information Systems. Prior to academia, he worked as a programmer/analyst at Intel Corporation.
His research emphasizes innovative uses of technology in education, including stealth assessments via video games, behavioral analytics, and social-emotional learning interventions. Key areas include evaluating the efficacy of digital tools like ClassDojo, analyzing eye-tracking data for social attention, and investigating how personality traits influence learning outcomes. Recent work explores the validity of video games as assessment tools for aggression and the role of cognitive ability in game engagement.
