Dr Michael MacLeod is a Senior Lecturer at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), specializing in rural economy, environment, and sustainable ecosystems. He holds a PhD in Environmental Education from Liverpool John Moores University, a Master’s in Energy Systems from the University of Strathclyde, and a Bachelor’s in Geology from the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on life-cycle analysis (LCA) of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in food supply chains, with an emphasis on cost-effective mitigation strategies. He has led over 30 projects as a principal investigator for clients such as the Scottish Government, DEFRA, the UK Committee on Climate Change, and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Key projects include developing GHG mitigation strategies for livestock sectors, analyzing carbon sequestration in land use systems, and creating tools like FISH-e for aquaculture emissions tracking. His work bridges environmental science and policy, with contributions to the EU’s livestock sector vision and climate change adaptation frameworks. Collaborations span institutions globally, addressing challenges like anthelmintic resistance in livestock and marine aquaculture sustainability.
