Professor Michael Lyons is a leading academic in Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), where he serves as a Senior Fellow and member of the Royal Irish Academy. His roles include former Head of the School of Chemistry (2017–2023) and Principal Investigator at CRANN and AMBER National Centre. He holds a ScD from the University of Dublin (2021) and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, yielding an h-index of 51 and recognition in the Stanford Top 2% Scientists. His research focuses on nanomaterials for energy conversion/storage, electrochemical biosensors, and mathematical modeling of reaction-diffusion systems.
Education:
- B.Sc. (1979) and Ph.D. (1983) in Chemistry and Mathematical Physics from University College Cork.
Research Interests: Electrochemical catalysis, nanomaterials for water electrolysis/fuel cells, mathematical modeling of electrochemical systems, and bio-diagnostic sensors. Current projects include Ni/Fe oxyhydroxide catalysts for alkaline electrolysis and biofilm-based biosensors.
