معرفی
Michael Liddell is an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Chemistry at James Cook University (JCU), Cairns campus, where he has been a faculty member since 1996. He played a foundational role in establishing the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences at JCU and served as Head of the Discipline of Chemistry from 2022–2023. His research focuses on environmental science, particularly atmospheric fluxes, carbon cycling in tropical rainforests, and peptide toxins. Liddell has led projects under initiatives like the Rainforest CRC, MTSRF, and TERN's Australian SuperSites Network, emphasizing sensor-based monitoring and biodiversity assessment.
Education: PhD in synthetic organometallic chemistry (1989) from University of Otago, Monash University, and University of Adelaide. Postdoctoral work included roles at Institut Francais du Petrole (Paris) and Laboratoire de Chimie Quantique (Strasbourg), followed by directing the NMR Facility at Auckland University (1991–1995).
Research Interests: Tropical rainforest ecology, atmospheric measurements, ecological modeling, and toxin biochemistry. Current projects include studies on abrasive blasting environmental impacts, forest biomass carbon predictions, and peptide toxin functionality.
Publications span over 50 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing tropical ecosystem responses to climate, hydraulics, and remote sensing. Collaborations include AITHM (peptide toxins) and OzFlux (tropical rainforest flux measurements).
Advisory role: Chair of Independent Academic Research Advisor. Current doctoral advisee focuses on invertebrate-derived polypeptides. Active in JCU's interdisciplinary research teams addressing environmental and health challenges.
Key facilities involvement: OzFlux tropical rainforest site (2009–2028), TERN's FNQ OzFlux program, and satellite-based monitoring initiatives.
