Michael Lewanski is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Music Performance at DePaul University School of Music, where he has served since 2008. He conducts the DePaul Concert Orchestra and Ensemble 20+ (specializing in 20th/21st-century repertoire) and leads Chicago-based new music ensemble Ensemble Dal Niente.

Research Interests: A dedicated champion of contemporary music, Lewanski focuses on creating audience-musician-cultural connections through new and historical works. He actively bridges academic and professional new music communities through festival curation and interdisciplinary collaborations.

As Department Chair and conductor, Lewanski mentors students through DePaul's orchestra and contemporary ensemble programs while guiding Ensemble Dal Niente's international residencies and recording projects. Ensemble Leadership: Lewanski directs Ensemble Dal Niente's performances at major institutions including Art Institute of Chicago and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, with residencies at Brown, Brandeis, Northwestern, and University of Chicago. His work with DePaul ensembles and guest conducting engagements worldwide establishes him as a pivotal figure in contemporary music performance training.
