Michael L. Harris

Michael L. Harris is an Assistant Professor at the Southern University Law Center. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting (1984) from Southern University A&M College and a Juris Doctorate (1987) from Southern University Law Center, with additional certification in Mediation from the Louisiana State Bar Association (2014).

His legal expertise spans over 35 years, covering administrative law, civil litigation, labor/employment discrimination, criminal litigation, education discrimination (Section 504 Rehabilitation Act), healthcare (Medicaid/Medicare), and tax litigation. Prior to academia, he served 27 years in government roles with the U.S. Treasury Department, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, and others. He is admitted to practice in multiple U.S. federal courts in Louisiana.

Teaching focuses on Administrative Law, Contracts, Evidence, Professional Responsibility, and Torts. He has also served as a guest lecturer for the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and on the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board for 8 years.
