Professor Michael Karayanni is the Bruce W. Wayne Professor of International Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Faculty of Law. He specializes in private international law, inter-religious law, multiculturalism, and civil procedure. Currently serving in residence until 20 September 2024, he holds visiting professorships at institutions including Georgetown University, Stanford Law School, and Yale Law School. Previously, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Law and founded the Center for the Study of Multiculturalism and Diversity. He directs the Minerva Center for Human Rights and the Sacher Institute for Legislative Research and Comparative Law.
His editorial roles include membership on the executive board of the American Journal of Comparative Law and as an associate member of the Institut de Droit International and Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He has held fellowships at the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton) and the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.
Research focuses on legal pluralism, human rights in multicultural societies, and comparative legal methodologies. His academic contributions bridge international law with religious and civil procedural frameworks.
