Michael Kaplan, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Outdoor Studies at Alaska Pacific University. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Washington, an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and a B.A. in Anthropology from Reed College.
His career in outdoor education began in 1994 when he moved to Alaska. Before joining Alaska Pacific University in 2008, he served as Assistant Professor and Program Chair of Outdoor Leadership at Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska (2002–2007). His research and teaching focus on outdoor leadership, environmental education, and the intersection of education and outdoor studies.
