Dr. Michael Jens Spira is a Senior Lecturer at ETH Zurich's Department of Physics and a staff member at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) since August 2000. He is affiliated with the Institute for Particle Physics (IPP) and the PSI Theory Group, contributing to theoretical particle physics research and education while maintaining strong ties with CERN and DESY.
His research centers on Beyond the Standard Model phenomenology, with emphasis on Higgs Physics, Supersymmetry, Perturbative QCD, and exotic scenarios like Leptoquarks and Compositeness. He actively investigates theoretical frameworks for particle accelerator experiments, particularly through involvement in the LHC Higgs Cross Section Working Group and Les Houches Workshop on Physics at TeV Colliders.
At ETH Zurich, Dr. Spira co-teaches 'Beyond the Standard Model' with Prof. Dr. Annapaola de Cosa, covering grand unified theories, supersymmetry phenomenology, and experimental search strategies for new physics. His work supports the Swiss Roadmap for Particle Physics and includes developing public FORTRAN codes for particle physics calculations.
As a core member of the PSI Theory Group and ETH Zurich's IPP, he bridges theoretical research with experimental applications across international collaborations, focusing on future collider physics and BSM validation methods.
