Michael Jefferson is a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP). He is also the co-principal of Jefferson Lettieri Office (JE-LE), an architectural practice engaged in design innovation and interdisciplinary exploration.
His academic and professional expertise lies in architectural design, technology, digital media, drawing, and visual representation. His work bridges art and architecture, emphasizing the role of technology in design processes and outcomes.
Jefferson has been recognized with several prestigious awards and fellowships, including:
- Innovation in Design Fellowship, University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (2019–20)
- MacDowell Fellowship, Peterborough, New Hampshire (2019)
- Robert James Eidlitz Travel Fellowship, AAP Department of Architecture (2013)
He has previously taught at The Cooper Union, Penn State University, the University of Michigan, City College of New York, and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Prior to founding JE-LE, he practiced at Adjaye Associates, CODA, Studio SUMO, and Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA). His work has been exhibited in New York City, Boston, and Ithaca, and published in journals such as Cornell Journal for Architecture, OfficeUS: Manual, Interiors, The Plan Journal, and Project.
Jefferson holds a Master of Architecture from Cornell University (2012). He has delivered lectures and participated in panel discussions at institutions and events including the Chicago Architecture Biennial and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) conference.
