Michael J. Ho is a Professor of Finance at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business, entering his 24th year of teaching as of 2025. He holds academic degrees from MIT (S.B., S.M.) and the University of Virginia (Ph.D.).
His research focuses on mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, and investment banking dynamics. Key interests include equity research analysts' behavior, investment bank reputations, and underwriter selection in IPOs. His work bridges academic theory with real-world transactional experience.
Ho maintains an active dual career: He serves as Managing Director and Co-Head of Buyside M&A Advisory at Fifth Third Securities (Fifth Third Bank's investment banking division), leveraging over 35 years of transaction experience. Previously, he co-founded Praxis Partners LLC and held leadership roles at Robertson Stephens & Company and First Boston Corporation under Bruce Wasserstein and Joe Perella.
He has developed executive education programs for institutions including Standard Chartered Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of America, and GE Nuclear. His teaching portfolio includes courses in financial statement analysis, enterprise valuation, corporate restructuring, and investment banking at Darden, Babson College, and Butler University. He also serves on the board of Telamon Corporation.
