Dr. Michael Humbracht is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Surrey, affiliated with the Department of Surrey Hospitality and Tourism Management. He holds a PhD from the University of Surrey and a master’s degree in applied cultural analysis from Lund University. His research focuses on the cultural and social implications of intersecting tourist, migrant, and digital mobilities, with particular emphasis on migration’s role in urban transitions, transnational intimacy, health tourism, and tourism futures. He has conducted applied research with the Malmö City Tourist Board and contributed to projects exploring material objects’ role in migrant belonging and ethical issues in stem cell tourism.
Teaching responsibilities include modules such as Applied Research in Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Entrepreneurship in Tourism, Hospitality and Events, and Tourism Social Science. His research integrates post-structuralist theories of mobility, ethics, and affect to analyze belonging, identity, and place in contemporary societies.
