Michael Hoppmann is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Northeastern University, serving as Assoc. Dean for Undergrad Programs. Previously, he held academic roles at the University of Tübingen, including designing a Master's program in rhetoric training. He holds a Dr. phil. (2008) and M.A. (2003) in Classical Rhetoric and Philosophy. His research focuses on Classical Rhetoric (historical argumentation models), Modern Argumentation Theory (argument schemes, deconstruction), and Applied Rhetoric (debate training).
Education: M.A. (highest honors) and Dr. phil. (summa cum laude) from Universities of Tübingen and Barcelona. Founded Germany's first debating clubs, authored/co-authored five books, and developed rhetorical training methodologies. Awards include academic degrees with highest honors.
