Michael Haedicke, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the University of Maine’s Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice. He holds a B.A. from Kalamazoo College and M.A./Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on environmental governance, food systems, societal responses to climate change, and emerging environmental hazards. He is a Fellow at the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions and contributes to its Materials Management Research Group. Additionally, he serves as a campus liaison to the USDA’s Agriculture of the Middle working group.
Dr. Haedicke’s research explores how cultural beliefs, social movements, and political dynamics shape environmental policies and industries. His work includes analyzing coastal restoration politics in Louisiana and PFAS contamination risk interpretations in Maine. These projects aim to inform state-level environmental policy development. His teaching spans sociological theory, research methods, environmental sociology, and food/agriculture systems.
He has been recognized through his Fellowship at the Mitchell Center. While no formal advisees are listed, his research collaborations and roles indicate significant engagement in academic teams and policy advocacy.
