Thomas Shriver

Thomas Shriver is Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at North Carolina State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research examines environmental sociology, social movements, health impacts of industrial contamination, and political sociology.

Shriver's education includes a PhD and MA in Sociology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a BA in Sociology from Western Kentucky University. His current projects focus on energy, environment, and social movements in the United States and Czech Republic, with specific attention to nuclear contamination, petrochemical pollution, lead, and PFAS.

His extensive publication record demonstrates sustained focus on environmental justice issues, community responses to contamination, and the dynamics of social movements in authoritarian contexts. Shriver's recent work explores themes of community health, environmental grief, and racial disparities in exposure to environmental hazards.
