Dr. Michael Grandner is the Director of the Sleep and Health Research Program at the University of Arizona and leads the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic at Banner-University Medical Center. He holds academic appointments as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry (UA College of Medicine) and joint roles in Medicine, Psychology, Nutritional Sciences, and Clinical Translational Science. Certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and a Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine, his work bridges translational sleep research and clinical practice.

His research explores sleep as a biological requirement linked to cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, mental health, and longevity. Publications highlight sleep tracking technology, health disparities, and sleep environment assessments.
Recent work connects nocturnal wakefulness to suicidal ideation, acculturation to sleep quality, and virtual CBT-I for cancer survivors. Awards include fellowships from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American Heart Association, alongside teaching accolades.
Dr. Grandner leads the Sleep and Health Research Program, which develops tools like the BRISC (Brief Index of Sleep Control) and ASE (Assessment of Sleep Environment). His team collaborates with institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, National Collegiate Athletics Association, and American Heart Association.
