Dr. Michael Goerndt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Conservation at the William H. Darr College of Agriculture, Missouri State University. He specializes in forestry, natural resources management, and biometrics. His research focuses on invasive species control, remote sensing applications in forestry, and silvopasture systems in the Ozark Highlands. Dr. Goerndt holds a PhD in Forest Biometrics and Mensuration from Oregon State University (2010), alongside multiple advanced degrees in statistics and forestry.
His current research includes chemical/mechanical treatments for invasive species (e.g., buckbrush, bush honeysuckle) and hyperspectral imagery via UAVs to study climate impacts on tree physiology. Collaborations with the Missouri Center for Agroforestry are central to his work. He has received grants from the Missouri Transect (EPSCoR) and awards including the Dilworth Memorial Fund and Harris Lab Conference Grants.
Dr. Goerndt teaches courses in forest ecology, silviculture, and dendrology. Professional affiliations include the Society of American Foresters and the Industry Studies Association. His interdisciplinary approach bridges forestry, statistics, and environmental science.
