Michael Gilbert is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Design at Bradley University, part of the Slane College of Communications & Fine Arts. He teaches courses in 2D design, drawing, and art appreciation, emphasizing both foundational skills and exploratory creative practices.
His educational background includes an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Since 2002, he has been an exhibiting artist with works held in collections across the United States and Asia, with a recent solo exhibition at the Foster Gallery in Peoria in 2022.
His research and scholarship focus on contemporary visual art and design, with an emphasis on studio practice and artistic expression. His teaching philosophy encourages open-ended exploration while ensuring technical proficiency.
Michael has contributed to academic service through roles such as gallery coordinator at Methodist College and community-based art projects, including leading a mural redesign for Laurel Hill Nursery School in San Francisco after it was vandalized.
He enjoys outdoor activities such as camping and walking his dog, and is actively involved in his son's baseball activities. He also maintains a personal interest in music and bowling, carrying a 220 average.
