Michael Fili is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at Howard University's College of Fine Arts. He teaches courses in music theory, composition, orchestration, and advanced ear training. As a professional chorister and composer, he has performed with renowned ensembles including the National Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin State Opera Orchestra. Fili is co-founder and Artistic Director of StageFree, a DC-based chamber music collective, and previously served as Artistic Director of TEMPO at the University of Maryland.

His research focuses on vocal composition and contemporary choral music, with works performed across the US and Europe. Notable recent roles include Composer in Residence at St. Paul’s, K Street (2024).
Teaching specialties include counterpoint, 18th-century compositional techniques, and advanced harmonic analysis. Maintains a private teaching studio in Washington, DC.
