Dr. Michael Fuchs is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Music Department at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He directs the UWS Singers and Chorale, and teaches conducting, choral methods, and ear training. Previously, he served as Director of Choral Activities at Clayton State University in Georgia, where he founded the Masterworks Chorus at Spivey Hall. His professional roles include Artistic Director of Musica (Dayton, OH) and Founder/Artistic Director of the Westminster Bach Consort.
Education highlights include degrees from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ), and Concordia College (Moorhead, MN). He has studied conducting under renowned mentors such as René Clausen and Joe Miller.
Research focuses on vocal pedagogy integration in choral rehearsals, early music performance practices, and J.S. Bach’s vocal works. Choirs under his direction have performed across the U.S. and internationally, earning numerous accolades. Recent conducting highlights include Beethoven’s Chorfantasie, David Lang’s Pulitzer-winning *the little match girl passion*, and Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem.
Active in community engagement, he serves as Director of Choral Activities at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, MN, overseeing a vibrant choral program. Performance credits include solo work with Princeton Pro Musica and the Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra.
