Michael E. Greenberg serves as the Nathan Marsh Pusey Professor of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School's Department of Neurobiology, where he leads research on experience-driven neuronal mechanisms. His laboratory investigates how external stimuli shape gene expression and neural connectivity through activity-dependent transcriptional programs.
His primary research interests focus on Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, Developmental Neuroscience, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, with specific emphasis on sensory-driven circuit development, enhancer elements in transcriptional responses, and human-specific molecular neurobiology. Current projects directly address neurological conditions including autism and Rett syndrome through molecular analysis of MeCP2 function.
Notable scientific recognition includes the endowed Nathan Marsh Pusey Professorship. His work bridges fundamental neuronal signaling pathways—such as calcium-dependent nuclear signaling from distal synapses—with clinical applications for cognitive disorders. The Greenberg Lab maintains its primary operations at Harvard Medical School's Goldenson Building in Boston.
