Michael E. Goldberg, MD, is the David Mahoney Professor of Brain and Behavior in Neuroscience, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Ophthalmology at Columbia University. He serves as a Principal Investigator at Columbia's Zuckerman Institute, focusing on the neural mechanisms of learning, memory, and sensory processing. His clinical role includes being an Attending Physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and he is a member of the Kavli Institute for Brain Science.
His research explores the intersection of sensory perception, motor control, and cognitive functions. Key interests include the neural basis of eye movements, cerebellar contributions to decision-making, and cortical mechanisms enabling spatially accurate vision. His work integrates experimental and theoretical approaches to understand how the brain encodes behaviorally relevant information.
Goldberg's publications emphasize cerebellar function in learning, neural correlates of movement, and the ethics of neurological research. His laboratory at the Zuckerman Institute investigates visuomotor integration, reinforcement learning, and neural circuit dynamics using advanced electrophysiological techniques.
