Michael Dunn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management & Business at Skidmore College, serving as Faculty Coordinator of the MB 107 program. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MBA from the Paul Merage School of Business at UC Irvine, and a BA in Sociology from the University of Washington. His research focuses on digital labor platforms, gig economy dynamics, educational pathways, and labor market outcomes for marginalized populations.
Key research interests include the social implications of digital work, contingent labor strategies, and the role of education in mobility. His work combines qualitative methods to analyze issues like gender disparities in online freelancing, platform-mediated markets, and the pandemic’s impact on remote work.
Publications span topics such as platformization of inequality, flexibility in digital labor, and educational outcomes for immigrant children. Dunn’s teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, using interactive technologies and case studies to engage students in critical analysis of contemporary social and economic issues.
