Jina Mao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management & Business at Skidmore College. She holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Boston University and prior degrees in Computer Science from the University of Illinois and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her research focuses on identity dynamics, social class inequality in work, and qualitative research methodologies. She teaches courses including MB 107 Business and Organization Management, MB 224 Foundations of Organizational Behavior, and SSP 100 Human Dilemmas.
Her work explores themes like dignity in polarized workplaces, career capital in creative industries, and social class barriers in hiring. A 2017 Best Dissertation Paper Award winner (MOC Division), her research bridges organizational behavior with sociocultural theory. She contributes to peer-reviewed journals such as Organization, Career Development International, and Human Relations.
Mao's teaching emphasizes experiential learning through the MB 107 program and explores contemporary workplace challenges. Her ethnographic studies, including a fast-food work analysis, demonstrate commitment to understanding modern labor dynamics. She collaborates with scholars like Deborah T. Hall and Karen Golden-Biddle on transformative organizational processes.
