Michael Domsgen

Prof. Michael Domsgen is Professor of Protestant Religious Education at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg's Faculty of Theology, where he founded and directs the Research Center for Religious Communication and Learning Processes. He completed his theological education at multiple German universities including Halle, Jena, and Tübingen, earning his doctorate in 1997 and habilitation in 2004.

His research examines religious education in secular contexts, focusing on three primary areas: religious pedagogy in majority non-religious societies, family-based religious education models, and theological frameworks for Protestant empowerment. His work bridges theoretical theology with empirical educational research, particularly in eastern German contexts.

Domsgen's publications demonstrate consistent focus on developing religious pedagogy for secular societies, with recent works examining pandemic-era religious education, diaconal service in non-religious communities, and empirical studies of student engagement. His scholarship combines theological rigor with practical application in educational settings.
