Dr. Michael De Silva is a Senior Lecturer in Human Physiology at La Trobe University, Australia. He is affiliated with the Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology & Pharmacology school. His research focuses on cardiovascular diseases, stroke, cognitive impairment, and dementia, aiming to develop therapies for these conditions. He completed his PhD at Monash University in 2011 and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Iowa (USA) under an NHMRC CJ Martin Fellowship. He joined La Trobe University in 2017.
His research interests include cerebral microvascular dysfunction in hypertension and stroke, and the development of novel therapies. He has published in prestigious journals like Hypertension and Stroke, and has received awards from the American Heart Association and Australian Foundation for High Blood Pressure Research.
Teaching interests include physiology and pharmacology. He is available for PhD supervision and collaborates on projects related to vascular biology and immunopharmacology. His lab is part of the Vascular Biology and Immunopharmacology Group (VBIG).
