Michael Darrin Brecheen is a Senior Lecturer at Gallaudet University, affiliated with the Department of Physical Education & Recreation within the School of Human Services and Sciences. He serves as Program Director and teaches courses such as PER-223 Aquatic Activities, PER-387 Athletic Coaching, and PER-390 Teaching Physical Education and Wellness in Secondary Schools. His teaching spans a wide range of topics including wellness, sports concepts, lifeguard training, and water safety instruction.
Brecheen has advised numerous undergraduate students across multiple academic terms, with advising loads consistently at 10-15 students per term since 2014. He actively participates in institutional committees including the Faculty-Student Affairs Committee, Faculty Welfare Committee, and Grievance Committee. His contributions extend to professional development initiatives, such as organizing American Red Cross workshops for the Gallaudet community and developing placement data systems for practicums/internships. He has also collaborated on revising departmental promotion/tenure guidelines and marketing efforts to promote campus facilities like the pool and rock-climbing gym.
