Michael D. Reisig is a Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Arizona State University (ASU) since 2008. Previously, he held positions at Michigan State University (1996-2004) and Florida State University (2004-2008). He earned his Ph.D. from Washington State University (1996), M.A. (1992), and B.S. (1991) from Pittsburg State University.
His research focuses on the nature of social control, neighborhood context of crime, criminological theory generality, measurement methodologies, and applied quantitative crime analysis. Notable works include studies on police legitimacy, procedural justice, and white-collar crime.
Reisig has led multiple grants, including a $25,755 project on juvenile risk-based supervision (2023) and a $524,680 study on scientific misconduct perceptions (2016-2019). He has mentored over 25 graduate and undergraduate students, serving as committee chair or member for doctoral, master’s, and honors theses.
He received awards such as the 2022 American Society of Criminology Fellowship and 2022 Outstanding Faculty Mentorship. He edits journals like Criminology and Criminology & Public Policy, and participates in national crime research initiatives.
