Sean Patrick Griffin

Dr. Sean Patrick Griffin is a Professor of Criminal Justice at The Citadel's Department of Criminal Justice within the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Administration of Justice (Sociology) from The Pennsylvania State University. Formerly a Philadelphia Police Officer, his work focuses on police legitimacy, abuse of force, white-collar crime, securities fraud, organized crime, and transnational criminal networks. He has conducted research in The Netherlands on topics including human trafficking and immigration's impact on criminal justice systems.

His notable works include Philadelphia’s Black Mafia (2003), Black Brothers, Inc. (2005/2007), and Gaming the Game (2011), which have been adapted into TV documentaries by BET, History Channel, and A&E. He regularly consults with law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and media outlets on organized crime, white-collar crime, and public policy. Dr. Griffin has appeared on numerous media platforms including ESPN, NPR, HBO, and international radio networks. He develops Continuing Legal/Education (CLE/CPE) coursework on securities fraud and has been featured in major publications like The New York Times and TIME Magazine.
