معرفی
Michael D. Brown serves as Teaching Professor and Department Chair of Cell Biology and Physiology within Brigham Young University's College of Life Sciences, holding Continuing Faculty Status since 2009. His academic leadership includes directing the BYU Neuroscience Center from 2010-2015.
Education:
- PhD in Anatomy, Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Neurosciences, Colorado State University (1999)
- MS in Anatomy, Program in Neuronal Growth and Development, Colorado State University (1998)
- BS in Microbiology with minor in Japanese, Brigham Young University (1993)
Dr. Brown's research spans neuroscience and cell biology, focusing on neuronal development mechanisms. His foundational work (1995-2000) investigated Rho GTPase regulation of actin dynamics in growth cones during neurite outgrowth, while later contributions shifted to biology education scholarship. His publications reveal an evolution from experimental neurobiology to pedagogical innovation, particularly in physiology curriculum development.
Scientific Recognition:
- Karl G. Maeser Professional Faculty Excellence Award (2014)
- Joseph Rowberry Teaching Fellowship (2015)
- Distinguished Faculty Award in Physiology & Developmental Biology (2013)
- Accessibility Center Faculty Recognition (2010)
- College Teaching Excellence Award (2005)
He maintains active professional engagement through memberships in the Society for Neuroscience, Human Anatomy and Physiology Society, and Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience, while continuing his administrative leadership as Department Chair.
