Michael Connolly is an Associate Professor at University College Dublin's School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, holding joint appointments with Our Lady's Hospice and Care Services. He serves as Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning and directs the Graduate Diploma/MSc in Palliative Care program. Previously, he was Head of Education at the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (2011-2015) and Director of Undergraduate Clinical Studies (2017-2019).
His educational background includes a BA in Philosophy from Milltown Institute (1998), an MSc in Nursing Education from UCD (2002), and a PhD in Equality Studies from UCD.
Connolly's research focuses on palliative care innovation with emphasis on:
- Technology-enhanced symptom management in terminal illness
- LGBTQ+ end-of-life care disparities
- Spiritual dimensions of palliative practice
- Educational frameworks for palliative competence development
- Ethical decision-making at end-of-life
