Michael Claxton, Ph.D., is a Professor of English at Harding University since 2003. He teaches Composition, World Literature, British Literature, and Shakespeare. He co-sponsors Harding's Sigma Tau Delta chapter and Souvenirs poetry club. His weekly campus newspaper column, 'Just the Clax,' has run for 18 years (300+ columns). Collaborations with Harding's Theatre Department include writing and acting in productions like Pirates!!! A Pillaging of Gilbert and Sullivan (2013), Checkon Chekhov (2019), and The Importance of Being Earnest (2024).
His research focuses on historical stage magicians. Key works include the 2014 biography Don't Fool Yourself: The Magical Life of Dell O'Dell, and ongoing projects like David Price, Paul McWilliams, and the Fight to Save Magic. He created online exhibitions for Magicana.com (2023) and writes for The Linking Ring, Magicol, Genii, and MAGIC.
Claxton's articles analyze magicians' cultural contributions, while his theatre collaborations bridge literature and performance. His current projects explore Nashville magicians' legacies and the Egyptian Hall Museum of Magic's origins. Despite no listed awards, his work emphasizes underrepresented figures in magic history.
