Michael Cecchini, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology) at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal, pancreatic, and bile duct cancers. He is Co-Director of the Colorectal Program in the Center for Gastrointestinal Cancers and Medical Oncology Section Lead for the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer. His clinical focus involves advanced gastrointestinal malignancies, and he leads multiple research trials exploring novel therapies and biomarkers. Dr. Cecchini received his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2012) and completed residency at Yale New Haven Hospital (2015), followed by a hematology/oncology fellowship (2018).
Research interests include DNA repair mechanisms, immunotherapy, and translational oncology. He has received awards such as the Yale Cancer Center Clinical Research Award (2025) and the Young Investigator Award from the Conquer Cancer Foundation. His work spans clinical trials (e.g., perioperative FOLFIRINOX for pancreatic cancer) and genomic analyses (e.g., POLE/POLD1-altered colorectal cancers). Dr. Cecchini is actively involved in multidisciplinary care, leading teams in hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) and the Oligometastatic Cancer Program.
