Michael Blake serves as Assistant Professor of Modern Dance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. A distinguished performer and choreographer, he holds an MFA in dance from Purchase College and maintains an active role in dance education and artistic direction.

Blake's research centers on Modern Dance and Choreography, with significant contributions to Contemporary Dance, Jazz Dance, and Dance Performance. His artistic practice investigates narrative expression through movement, blending theatricality with technical precision while preserving historical dance traditions.

- 2010 Bessie Award for work with Paradigm Dance Project
His professional trajectory spans major dance companies including Murray Louis Dance Company (1982-84), José Limón Dance Company (1986-1991) where he performed principal roles, and Donald Byrd/The Group (1991-1998). He has appeared in national tours of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Cab Calloway’s Cotton Club Review, plus film projects including The Tales of Cri Cri and Unsettled Dreams. From 2011-2017, he directed the Joffrey Ballet School’s Jazz and Contemporary Trainee Program while maintaining teaching positions at Hunter College, Purchase College, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, and Ithaca College.
