Michael Bitz

Michael Bitz is a Professor of Teacher Education at Ramapo College of New Jersey’s School of Social Science and Human Services. He holds a Doctorate of Education from Columbia University, Teachers College (1998), and has been at Ramapo since 2008.

His teaching explores creativity, student engagement, and learning through literacy and technology. He launched the Comic Book Project in 2001, which has impacted over 150,000 youths and educators via non-traditional literacy pathways. His research focuses on technology’s role in public schools and urban youth education.

His publications span books like When Commas Meet Kryptonite and Manga High, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Sequential Art and Narratives in Education and Teachers College Record. Notable awards include the Fred and Florence Thomas Faculty Award (2015).
