Professor Michael Barnett is a Professor of Neurology and holds the McLeod Chair of Neurology at the University of Sydney's Sydney Medical School, within the Central Clinical School of the Faculty of Medicine and Health. His primary affiliation is with the Brain and Mind Centre, and he is also part of the Sydney Neuroimaging Analysis Centre and Sydney Neurology. His research focuses on neuroimmunological disorders, particularly multiple sclerosis (MS), autoimmunity, neurodegeneration, and neuroimaging.
Key research interests include the pathogenesis and treatment of MS, biomarker development, and clinical outcomes. He has contributed to defining standardized measures of disease progression (e.g., PIRA) and optimizing imaging techniques for monitoring MS.
