Dr. Marzena Pedrini is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the UWA Medical School and a member of the Centre for Neuromuscular and Neurological Disorders at the Perron Institute. Her research focuses on multiple sclerosis (MS) and related neuroimmunological disorders, with an emphasis on disease progression, therapeutic interventions, and biomarker discovery. She has contributed to defining clinical outcomes in MS, such as the Standardized Definition of Progression Independent of Relapse Activity (PIRA), and investigates epigenetic and environmental factors influencing disease severity. Her work also explores MOG antibody-associated disorders and the impact of pregnancy on MS disease activity.
Dr. Pedrini leads or collaborates on grants including projects funded by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Western Australia. Her research spans clinical trials of disease-modifying therapies, longitudinal studies of MS patients during the pandemic, and immune mechanism studies using transcriptomics and epigenetic analyses.
Her expertise contributes to sustainable development goals related to health and well-being (SDG 3), addressing neurological disorders through innovative diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies.
