Michael B. Kent is a Professor at Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, teaching constitutional law, local government, land use regulation, and real property. A graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, he previously practiced law focusing on land use and public utilities and clerked for federal judges.
Kent's scholarship examines constitutional property rights, regulatory takings, and state-local government tensions, particularly in land use contexts. He authored Webster’s Real Estate Law in North Carolina and received the 2014 Lawyer of the Year award from North Carolina Lawyers Weekly. His publications analyze doctrinal tensions in takings jurisprudence and historical property rights frameworks.
Kent serves on the North Carolina General Statutes Commission and has advised on fracking legislation and preemption issues. His innovative teaching has earned him multiple 1L Professor of the Year awards from students.
