Michael Andary

Michael Andary is a Professor in the Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences at Northern Michigan University (NMU). He transitioned from a career in construction to academia in 2001, contributing to the growth of NMU’s Construction Management program. His industry experience spans roles as a carpenter, foreman, and project superintendent with Barton Malow Company, overseeing projects like schools, hospitals, and industrial facilities.

Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Ferris State University
• Master of Public Administration, Northern Michigan University

Research & Teaching: Focuses on construction processes, project safety, and sustainable practices. Teaches courses including Construction Economics, Project Control, and OSHA Compliance. Active in curriculum development and industry partnerships.

Awards:

• 2019 NMU Distinguished Faculty Award (nominated by students, alumni, and faculty)

Advising & Service: Co-adviser of Northern Michigan Constructors (student organization building community projects). Launched NMU’s Construction Management career fair, connecting students with national employers.
