Micah True is an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and a Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta. His academic journey includes a PhD in Romance Studies from Duke University, focusing on French literature and culture, with earlier degrees from Gonzaga University. His research explores French and Francophone literature, early modern cultural contact, and colonial studies, particularly Jesuit missions in New France. He has authored influential works like Masters and Students (2015) and an annotated translation of Charlevoix’s journal (2019). Current projects include a biography-of-the-book study of the Jesuit Relations, supported by a SSHRC Insight Grant.
His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, covering French literature, folklore, and colonial studies. Research interests also include the intersection of French theatre with colonial projects in Canada, challenging traditional Eurocentric narratives. His work appears in journals like French Studies and French Forum.
