Peadar Kavanagh is a Teaching Fellow in the Humanities at the University of Chicago, affiliated with the Department of Romance Languages & Literatures. He holds a PhD in French & Francophone Studies from the University of Chicago (2024). His research focuses on satire in 17th-century France, particularly under Louis XIV’s reign, and its evolution in modern Francophone cultures. He is currently translating Cyrano de Bergerac’s Œuvres diverses (1654) for critical and pedagogical editions. His work explores the interplay between Jesuit educational practices and literary production during the Counter-Reformation.
Teaching: Recent courses include Introduction à la satire en France and La querelle des femmes, alongside language and culture courses at introductory and intermediate levels. Office hours are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00 a.m.−12:00 p.m. in Gates-Blake 210.
Future Projects: Plans to analyze Jesuit collèges' influence on 17th-century literature through the lens of Cyrano’s satirical letters. Emphasizes critical and pedagogical engagement in teaching.
