Micah Alpaugh is a historian and former Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities (2011–2012). His research focuses on comparative political protest movements in the eighteenth century, particularly in London, Boston, and Paris. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, with a dissertation examining the peaceful techniques and transatlantic influences of radical protests during the Age of Democratic Revolutions.
- Degree: Ph.D. in History (University of California, Irvine)
Alpaugh’s work investigates the evolution of popular sovereignty and the cosmopolitan nature of pre-modern protest strategies. His 2014 monograph, Non-Violence and the French Revolution, expands this analysis to Parisian political demonstrations, highlighting the continuity of nonviolent methods during the Revolutionary era.
His research methodology emphasizes the use of primary sources such as newspapers, pamphlets, personal letters, and official reports to reconstruct protest campaigns. While his work centers on the eighteenth century, it contributes to broader discussions about the transnational adaptability of democratic activism.
