Dr. Mia Zhu is an Assistant Professor in the Industrial and Organizational Psychology program at Texas A&M University. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from George Mason University. Her research focuses on employee well-being, work stress recovery, work-life balance, and innovative research methods such as just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAI). She leads the Recovery from Work Stress (REST) Lab at TAMU, which explores methodological advancements in I/O psychology and practical solutions for workplace well-being.
Dr. Zhu’s educational background includes a Ph.D. from George Mason University, emphasizing applied research in organizational behavior and psychological well-being. She is affiliated with professional organizations like the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), Academy of Management (AOM), and the American Psychological Association (APA).
Her research interests span cognitive reappraisal interventions, resilience in work environments, and the role of supervisors in facilitating recovery. Key themes include leveraging technology for real-time interventions and understanding the psychological mechanisms behind work-leisure interactions. Recent studies highlight the impact of work breaks, telework dynamics, and the relationship between sleep and counterproductive work behavior.
Dr. Zhu’s scholarly contributions include over 15 peer-reviewed articles, with a focus on methodological rigor and practical applicability. She actively mentors graduate students (accepting applications for 2025-2026) and collaborates on grants exploring workplace interventions and recovery strategies. The REST Lab serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research, emphasizing collaboration and evidence-based solutions.
